Handguns

In the 15th era the announcement "pistol" was used for bitty knives and daggers which could be concealed in a person's clothing. By the 18th century, the article came to be pre-owned exclusively to refer to Handguns handheld firearms. Practical revolver designs appeared in the 19th century, and it was in that century that the (sometimes-observed) technical differentiation in usage of the words "pistol" and "revolver" developed.

Civilian control of handguns in Australia is legal, but heavily restricted. Handguns may not be owned for self-defence purposes (Target shooting, collecting, and occupational reasons for farmers/gun dealers are, by and large, the only legal reasons for equalizer ownership), and anyone wishing to possess a difference must obtain a firearms licence and observe stringent storage regulations.
